American Airlines Adds New European & World Cup Routes

American Airlines will offer thousands of new connecting opportunities between top-tier European cities and popular World Cup destinations, with many customers now able to travel through hubs in London and Madrid; Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas; Chicago; and Miami. The airline will establish direct flights linking Athens, Prague, Budapest, Milan, Zurich, and Buenos Aires to the United States. beginning in May to meet increasing demand for leisure and business travel. The endemic responses are intended to satisfy growing demand for Europe and South America travel, while taking advantage of the anticipated spike in passenger numbers around the key 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada. American Airlines is preparing a large-scale expansion of its European and global networks from 2025, with new city links and the resumption of previously paused services. Seasonal flights to help the 2026 FIFA World Cup will also be a part of new routes next year, it said, adding that this would represent a key year for the airline’s international operations.
