Copenhagen Launches CopenPay Rewards for Eco-Friendly Travelers
Copenhagen is leading the way for sustainable tourism by becoming the first destination to launch CopenPay, a new stay payment program that offers eco-friendly travelers letting accommodations pay them for behaving responsibly. Providing enticing tasks such as free museum entry, discounted tours and unusual experiences, the city motivates visitors to do things like cycling, using public transport and litter pick-ups(help clean up). By making the travel experience even more enjoyable and empowering travellers to have a direct impact on the environment, this initiative is indicative of responsible tourism that can also be fun!
The increase of tourism is felt throughout many European cities and in some places, the burden is heavy. Oh, and look at how the locals react to the many visitors: In Paris and especially in Barcelona – with strikes ( [=demos] ). In response, a number of towns have taken measures to address the problem — including issuing fines to tourists who get out line. But the Danish capital of Copenhagen has come up with an original solution through its CopenPay program. The city is not trying to punish tourists, quite the opposite: it rewards those who take care of and conduct conscious tourism. This new project is designed to promote tourism in a responsible way, and also wants to ensure that their guests absolutely never leave with bad memories or without benefitting the livelihood of the people they are visiting.
