Japan’s Tourism Boom: July 2025 Sees Record Growth, 40M Visitors in Sight
Japan has witnessed a remarkable surge in tourism, reaching a record-breaking 3.4 million visitors in July 2025, driven by a substantial increase in travelers from mainland China and enhanced flight connectivity. This all-time high shows an increase of 4.4% from the previous year. This rise coincides with the global interest towards Japan due to the summer school holidays and the launching of new flight routes. Japan’s tourism is boosted from visitors coming from China, Taiwan, Indonesia, India and even the United States. Japan is estimated to gain more than 40 million inbound visitors by the end of 2025.
Japan’s tourism industry reached unprecedented heights in July 2025, with 3.437 million international visitors, as revealed by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) on August 20. This remarkable 4.4% year-on-year growth was primarily fueled by a substantial influx of travelers from mainland China, complemented by other factors that have collectively propelled Japan to a new era of tourism success.
