Philippines Boosts Coastal Tourism with Eco-Friendly Boat Initiative in Dinagat Islands

In a significant effort to enhance eco-tourism and boost livelihoods in the coastal community of Basilisa, the Department of Labor and Employment, Province of Dinagat Islands Field Office (DOLE-PDIFO) has delivered a P2-million eco-tourism boat to the Sering Fisherfolk Association (SFA). This strategic project is designed not only to provide an alternative source of income for the local community but also to promote the island’s sustainable tourism and environmental preservation. Empowering Coastal Communities Through Sustainable Tourism The project, funded under the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), is a vital step toward creating a long-term, sustainable source of income for the SFA members while enhancing the local tourism economy. This initiative goes beyond simply providing a financial boost—it highlights the role of eco-tourism as a vital economic pillar for local communities, particularly those dependent on the natural environment for their livelihoods. The turnover ceremony, which took place on March 24 in Barangay Coring, Basilisa, marked the beginning of an important collaboration between the local government, SFA members, and various government agencies. The event exemplified the power of partnerships in driving eco-tourism projects that both benefit the local population and ensure the preservation of the island’s stunning natural attractions.
