Thailand Rolls Out 450-Baht Fee for Safer, Greener Tourism
Starting 2027, foreign travelers visiting Thailand will need to pay an entry fee of 450 baht (approximately US$13–17). This new system is designed to help finance a Tourism Promotion Fund. The Fund will allocate its resources to areas like tourism infrastructure and restoring the environment. It will also help create a safe environment for tourists, affiliate an appropriate workforce for tourism, and offer travel insurance. The approach, which was approved at the National Tourism Policy Committee, still requires many long steps, such as a Cabinet meeting and a publishing in the Royal Gazette, to become operational. The new system is a marked shift from the older high volume tourist-based system. The authorities want to create a system that will enable the country to fund and facilitate ways to protect and maintain the natural resources of the country while creating a safe environment for tourists.
