Penang has enhanced tourism infrastructure management in George Town by implementing strict controls at the redeveloped tourist bus pick-up and drop-off zone on Lebuh Carnarvon, which is aimed at improving traffic flow and facilitating a better visitor experience at one of Malaysia’s most popular heritage destinations.
The upgraded zone will operate strictly as a short-term passenger transfer point. Tourist buses will no longer be allowed to remain in the area for extended periods after dropping off or collecting passengers. The space cannot be used as a waiting or parking area, ensuring that road capacity remains available for other vehicles and public transport services.
George Town continues to attract large numbers of domestic and international visitors due to its heritage attractions, historic streets, cultural experiences and UNESCO World Heritage recognition. As tourism activity expands, authorities are focusing on improving transport systems and managing visitor movement more effectively within the busy city centre.
