Japan Airlines Is World’s Best For 2023, Vistara & Air India Also Make It To The Top 10

The research was conducted by Bounce, a luggage storage company. In its Airline Index 2023, the company revealed the best and worst airlines for this year — both international and domestic (US-based). Japan Airlines emerged as the best international airline, followed by Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Qatar Airways. Some of the other Asian airlines on the list include Vistara, All Nippon Airways, Air India and Vietnam Airlines, among the top 10. How were the airlines ranked? For international ratings, Bounce took into account 62 of the world’s largest airlines (based on departures). On-time arrival and cancellation percentages were calculated based on data from OAG.com and parameters such as meals, inflight entertainment and staff services were recorded from Skytrax.com, notes the agency. Other key factors included checked-in and carry-on baggage allowance (for both domestic and international flights), seat comfort and number of flights. Japan Airlines scored a consistent four points out of five for in-flight entertainment, meals, seat comfort and staff service. It had one of the best records for on-time arrivals at 88.36 percent, and a low cancellation rate of 1.56 percent. Singapore Airlines also secured four points for all its in-flight categories. It has the lowest cancellation rate at 0.03 percent (which it shares with Iberia that is 19th among the world’s best airlines). Qatar Airways also scored four out of five points across in-flight categories. It recorded an on-time arrival rate of 77.51 percent and just 0.33 percent cancellations. If we compare the stats with 2022, Japan Airlines overtook SIA’s number one spot by a huge margin. SIA showed a drop of 0.06 points this year compared to its score from last year. All Nippon Airways ranked second in 2022, but dropped to the sixth place this year with a decline of 0.75 points. Additionally, while Korean Air maintained its score, the airline’s ranking dropped one place as Qatar Airways showed an improvement of 0.47 points, earning it the third spot.
