Tripura Invests ₹67 Cr in Eco-Tourism for Sustainable Growth

India’s Tripura launches a transformative INR 67-crore project in Gomati to enhance eco-tourism at Chabimura, Fatik Sagar, and Amar Sagar, boosting global tourism. Tripura is poised for a significant boost in tourism with the launch of an infrastructure development project worth INR 67 crore, aimed at enhancing key tourist destinations in the state. Chief Minister Manik Saha laid the foundation stone for this ambitious project at three prominent locations in the Gomati district: Chabimura, Fatik Sagar, and Amar Sagar. The initiative is part of the larger Tripura Urban and Tourism Development Project (TUTDP), which is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Advertisement The ceremony was held at Chabimura, a site known for its stunning ancient rock carvings along the Gomati River. It marked a milestone for Tripura as the state aims to not only improve its tourism infrastructure but also elevate its cultural and eco-tourism appeal. The event was attended by several key figures, including Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, local MLA Ranjit Das, and other senior government officials such as the Secretary of the Tourism Department, UK Chakma, and the District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati, Tarit Kanti Chakma. The event was also overseen by the Chairman of the Block Advisory Committee and was organized under the supervision of the Managing Director of the Tripura Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. (TTDCL), Prashant Badal Negi. The primary goal of this initiative is to transform Chabimura, which is famous for its ancient rock carvings, into a major tourist hub. Enhancements at Fatik Sagar and Amar Sagar are also integral to the plan, with the objective of attracting both domestic and international tourists. The planned improvements aim to bolster the region’s infrastructure, making it more accessible and attractive to visitors. These developments will help position Tripura as a key destination for eco-tourism, thanks to its unique natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. In addition to improving infrastructure, the project is designed to integrate sustainability into the development process, focusing on eco-tourism and the preservation of cultural landmarks. The tourism sector is expected to benefit greatly from these changes, offering new opportunities for employment, local business growth, and the enhancement of community livelihoods. Moreover, Tripura aims to leverage its strategic location near the Chittagong Port in Bangladesh, which will facilitate enhanced connectivity and provide a gateway for Southeast Asian tourists. The ADB’s involvement in funding the Tripura Urban and Tourism Development Project reflects the importance of the initiative within the broader context of regional growth and development. The ADB has been a key partner in advancing Tripura’s tourism infrastructure and is instrumental in helping the state realize its tourism potential. By focusing on infrastructure improvements in key tourist destinations, the project aims to increase liveability, boost the local economy, and preserve the state’s cultural identity for future generations.
