Tourism in 2024: Significant Growth and Visitor Impact
During the Qatar Economic Forum in 2025, Qatar Tourism’s Chairman discussed the remarkable achievements from 2024, including the surge in international visitors. With 5 million international arrivals—representing a 25 percent year-on-year increase—the country witnessed a major expansion in its tourism footprint. Notably, in-destination spending exceeded QAR 40 billion, and the hospitality sector achieved a major milestone by recording 10 million room nights sold throughout the year.
This uptick in tourism and the increase in international visitor spending reflect Qatar’s growing appeal as a global travel destination. International travelers, increasingly aware of the nation’s distinctive offerings, are drawn to Qatar’s luxury and diverse travel experiences. Moreover, the country’s infrastructure is steadily evolving to meet the growing demand, with hospitality, tourism experiences, and luxury resorts at the forefront of these developments.
Global Travel Trends: Lifestyle and Purpose-Driven Experiences
The Chairman of Qatar Tourism discussed a pivotal shift in global travel demand during the panel discussion, highlighting how travelers are increasingly seeking lifestyle-driven and purpose-led experiences. These experiences focus on wellness retreats, cultural immersions, and luxury nature-based vacations, rather than conventional materialistic pursuits. Travelers are more interested in bespoke accommodations, culinary exploration, and curated cultural activities, which increasingly align with Qatar’s tourism goals.
Qatar’s approach to tourism development has been tailored to capitalize on these global trends. The country’s tourism strategy is centered on six major demand areas, with 54 strategic projects planned to improve product development, enhance regulations, and enrich visitor experiences. This forward-thinking approach positions Qatar as an evolving, competitive, and sustainable global tourism hub.
