Uttar Pradesh Launches Ambitious Tourist Village Project to Boost Cultural Tourism and Rural Employment Advertisement As part of a focused strategy to boost cultural tourism and improve rural livelihoods, the Uttar Pradesh tourism department has announced the development of 35 villages across seven border districts into designated ‘tourist villages.’ This project aims to draw travelers interested in genuine, immersive cultural experiences while driving sustainable economic development within rural areas. The targeted districts—Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Shravasti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, and Pilibhit—are known for their rich cultural heritage yet have remained largely untapped by mainstream tourism. Transforming Villages into Cultural Tourism Hubs Each chosen village will be developed with a focus on providing ten homestay accommodations managed by local families. These homestays aim to offer visitors a genuine glimpse into the village lifestyle, traditions, and warm hospitality, providing an enriching alternative to conventional tourist experiences. By living alongside the villagers, travelers can engage directly with local customs, festivals, and daily routines, fostering deeper cultural understanding and appreciation.
