Indian Cities See Travel Boom Despite China Slump

Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, and Rajasthan drove a local travel boom in April 2025, putting India at the forefront of Asia Pacific hotel recovery as travelers came back in big numbers to both work and play. With robust demand boosting occupancy and rates by double digits in those markets, India was the region’s standout success despite China’s hospitality industry grappling with oversupply and muted international demand.
Asia Pacific’s hotel industry witnessed mostly positive momentum in April 2025, as post-pandemic travel appetite remained strong across many key markets. Ten of the region’s sixteen largest hotel markets reported year-on-year growth in occupancy, average daily rates (ADR), and revenue per available room (RevPAR), signaling sustained demand for both leisure and business travel. However, the region’s performance remained uneven, shaped by seasonal travel, economic shifts, and event-driven tourism. While Japan achieved standout success during its peak travel season, China continued to grapple with occupancy pressures and market saturation.
