Air India has achieved a remarkable milestone in its fleet expansion strategy with the delivery of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a significant leap in the airline’s modernization efforts. This event is particularly historic, as it is the first Dreamliner to be inducted into the Air India fleet in more than eight years. Furthermore, it is the first wide-body aircraft acquisition for Air India since its privatization under the Tata Group in January 2022, underscoring the airline’s renewed commitment to enhancing its international operations and overall passenger experience.
The delivery of the Boeing 787-9 was completed at Boeing’s Everett factory in Seattle on January 7, 2026. Following this, the aircraft will undergo the necessary inspections by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) before it is expected to make its way to India in the coming days. Officials within Air India have described this delivery as a pivotal moment in the airline’s long-term growth plan, as it represents a major step forward in modernizing the airline’s long-haul fleet, with an emphasis on both passenger comfort and the expansion of global connectivity.
