Indian Railways Begins Massive Track Renewal to Upgrade 7,900 km for Safer, Faster Travel
Indian Railways has officially rolled out an extensive track renewal programme that will overhaul a total of seven thousand nine hundred kilometers of track across the country. This initiative is part of a strategic effort to modernise the rail network, ensuring that trains can operate at higher speeds and with improved safety. By upgrading the tracks, Indian Railways aims to address infrastructure challenges, reduce delays, and enhance the overall travel experience for millions of passengers. The renewal programme is set to bolster both the speed and safety of the national rail system, paving the way for a more efficient and reliable railway network in the future.
Indian Railways is embarking on a transformative project aimed at renewing over 7,900 kilometers of its track infrastructure over the next two years. This major undertaking reflects a strategic push to enhance the speed, efficiency, and safety of the national railway network, which serves as a backbone for the country’s passenger and freight transportation.
Currently, in the ongoing financial year 2025-26, work is already in progress on more than 7,500 kilometers of track renewal. This follows the renewal of over 6,800 kilometers of track in the previous year, demonstrating the substantial and ongoing commitment to improving the rail infrastructure. These efforts are aligned with Indian Railways’ larger plan to modernise its entire network to better serve the growing needs of the nation.
