Nepal’s Dhumba Lake Emerges as a 2026 Tourism Star as Mustang Sees Rising Visitors

Nepal’s Dhumba Lake, located in the stunning Mustang region, has rapidly emerged as a top tourist destination, drawing visitors from around the world. Known for its serene blue waters and deep spiritual significance, the lake offers an unforgettable experience for both nature lovers and those seeking cultural enrichment. With easier access this year, thanks to milder temperatures, more tourists are able to explore the lake, making it a year-round attraction. The lake’s blend of natural beauty, religious importance, and its accessibility has elevated its status as a must-see site in Nepal’s growing tourism landscape. In January and February of the previous year, Dhumba Lake, located in Samle village of Gharpajhong Rural Municipality-5 in Mustang, Nepal, froze completely due to the extreme cold. The harsh weather conditions made it nearly impossible for tourists to visit the lake, and the journey to Mustang itself became a challenge. However, this year, as of the third week of January, tourists have been able to reach the lake without difficulty, thanks to milder temperatures. Unlike past years when the lake would freeze during the winter, Dhumba Lake is now gently flowing with clear blue water. This transformation has attracted visitors from both within Nepal and abroad, as the lake’s scenic beauty and accessibility continue to captivate travelers. Dhumba Lake has quickly become a top destination for tourists, as well as educational and organizational groups traveling to Mustang. Even during the traditionally colder month of Magh, the lake has seen a notable increase in visitors. On average, more than 150 tourists visit the lake daily, reflecting the growing popularity of this hidden gem in Nepal’s Mustang region.
