This monumental expansion includes the launch of direct flights to Melbourne and Colombo, aimed at meeting the growing demand for long-haul travel. As British Airways gears up for the 2026 winter season, the airline is set to expand its long-haul network significantly, introducing exciting new destinations and increasing the frequency of services on several popular routes. This strategic expansion marks a 9% growth in long-haul capacity compared to the previous winter, reflecting the airline’s commitment to strengthening its position in the global leisure travel market.
One of the most eagerly awaited additions is the launch of flights to Melbourne, Australia. Beginning on January 9, 2027, British Airways will operate daily flights from London Heathrow, with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur. This new service is perfectly timed to coincide with major events like the Australian Open and the Melbourne Grand Prix, offering travelers a chance to experience one of Australia’s most exciting and vibrant cities during peak events.
