Singapore Boosts Asia Connectivity as Daily Direct Flights to Hangzhou and Shanghai Expand

Singapore is expanding its aviation footprint across mainland China by introducing new daily direct flight services to both Hangzhou and Shanghai, a move driven by rising passenger demand, improved travel conditions, and strengthened bilateral mobility under visa-free arrangements. The expansion, led by major carriers and timed to match post-recovery travel growth, reinforces Singapore’s position as a key aviation hub in Asia while enhancing business, tourism, and trade connectivity between Southeast Asia and China’s most dynamic economic centers. Singapore is accelerating its aviation connectivity with mainland China through a structured expansion of daily flight services, reinforcing Changi Airport’s strategic role as a leading regional hub. The latest additions reflect improved travel conditions and sustained demand, supported by visa-free arrangements between Singapore and China that have contributed to stronger passenger flows in both business and leisure segments. At the center of this development is the launch of a new daily Singapore–Hangzhou service. Singapore Airlines began operating this route on June 1, 2026, marking Hangzhou as its ninth destination in mainland China. The route is operated using the Airbus A350-900, configured for medium-haul operations with a total capacity of 303 seats, divided into 40 Business Class seats and 263 Economy seats. The aircraft selection reflects a focus on fuel efficiency, range capability, and passenger comfort on longer regional routes.
