A major international travel surge has pushed Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport past the ten million cross-border passenger mark in just half of 2026, driven strongly by rising demand from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and several Gulf countries. The sharp growth is linked to expanded flight connectivity, faster border clearance systems, and stronger regional travel demand across Asia and the Middle East. This combination has turned Guangzhou into a rapidly expanding global aviation gateway, where increasing business travel, tourism flows and regional mobility are collectively accelerating passenger volumes to record-breaking levels. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has entered a historic phase of international expansion after surpassing 10 million cross-border passenger trips in just the first half of 2026. The milestone, achieved nearly one month earlier than the previous year, reflects a sharp acceleration in global connectivity, with year-on-year growth exceeding 21% and setting a new operational record for the same period. The airport is now handling an average of 58,000 inbound and outbound international passenger movements per day, with peak days reaching up to 68,000 travellers. This surge highlights the growing role of Guangzhou as a key aviation gateway linking China with Southeast Asia, the Gulf region, and wider Belt and Road markets. The strongest passenger flows are being driven by Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and multiple Gulf countries, which collectively form the backbone of the airport’s international traffic rebound.
