Bengaluru Metro’s Green Line Set for Major Expansion with New Trains in 2026

Bengaluru’s metro network is set to expand further as the Green Line prepares for a major rolling stock addition in 2026, aimed at strengthening passenger capacity and reducing chronic overcrowding on one of the city’s busiest corridors. The upgrade comes as part of a structured fleet expansion plan that will introduce new six-coach trainsets, improving service frequency and operational stability across the line. With rising daily ridership placing pressure on existing services, the planned induction is expected to significantly enhance commuter movement efficiency while also enabling redistribution of trains to other congested corridors within Namma Metro. The initiative is being executed by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited as part of its long-term strategy to scale up rolling stock availability in line with rising commuter demand across the city. The induction of three six-coach trainsets is expected to significantly improve the Green Line’s ability to handle peak-hour passenger volumes. This corridor continues to experience heavy demand due to its strong connectivity between residential clusters and key employment zones in Bengaluru. With longer train formations entering service, the line is expected to witness better crowd distribution across platforms and improved boarding efficiency. Increased capacity will also help reduce delays caused by platform congestion during peak travel windows.
