Koh Tao Tourism Surges Past 400,000 Visitors on New Sculpture Park
Koh Tao in Thailand’s southern Surat Thani province is witnessing a strong tourism rebound as visitor arrivals reached 407,697 in the first half of 2026, up fourteen per cent year on year, with the island now projected to attract about 800,000 visitors this year. The growth is being driven by diving demand, marine tourism, and the new Ocean for Life underwater sculpture park, which official PR Thai Government information identifies as a major new draw for the island.
Koh Tao Strengthens Thailand’s Southern Island Tourism Appeal
Koh Tao has long held a powerful position in Thailand’s island tourism economy because of its diving schools, coral ecosystems, compact island geography, and access to the Gulf of Thailand. The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes Ko Tao as a world-renowned deep-diving destination and one of the Asia-Pacific region’s hubs for diving classes, with coral reefs and marine life including turtles and whale sharks.
