Sri Lanka Unveils Passenger Drone Services Across Its Most Iconic Destinations
Among its many goals to improve the country’s tourism offerings, Sri Lanka wants to deploy futuristic aerial passenger drone transport services. Sri Lanka’s government has included passenger drone services in its approach to design new aviation solutions and novel ways to tour its country. The hovering electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) passenger drones are proposed to provide a quick alternative to transportation on and over land and sea for tourism, emergency rescue, and even maritime services.
A discussion on the potential passenger drone programme was recently held at the Ministry of Ports and Civil Aviation, bringing together government aviation authorities and technology experts to explore how this emerging transportation concept could be introduced safely and effectively.
The proposed service is based on next-generation electric aircraft technology designed to carry passengers without the need for traditional runways. The aircraft presented during the discussions feature multiple propulsion systems and are capable of autonomous operation through artificial intelligence-based technology.
