United Airlines To Relaunch Cleveland - Las Vegas Flights In March 2024
The Chicago, Illinois-based airline has continued its expansion from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE). United Airlines has announced it will relaunch its service to Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas, Nevada. The service is set to begin in March of next year and will be operated as a seasonal route focused on attracting spring breakers. The airline will also relaunch its service from Cleveland to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).
Las Vegas service
The United Airlines operation to Las Vegas will be flown five times per week beginning on March 7. This five-time weekly service will continue through the rest of March. However, beginning in April, this service will drop to four flights per week. The service is only a seasonal service, however, which means that the route will cease operations on its expected end date of May 20.
The Las Vegas service will depart Cleveland at 19:45 local time and arrive in Las Vegas at approximately 21:30 local time. The return flight is scheduled to depart Las Vegas at 23:05 local time and arrive in Cleveland at 6:00 local time.
United Airlines will operate this service with one of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft. United operates its Boeing 737-800s in a configuration with three classes. These three classes include first class, economy plus, and standard economy. There are four different 737-800 aircraft configurations in the United Airlines fleet.
The airline has serviced this route in the past. United Airlines utilized Cleveland as a hub city until 2014. However, even after closing its hub in Cleveland, it maintained the service to Las Vegas. The airline would eventually close this service in 2016. United Airlines still utilized Cleveland Hopkins as a crew base and employs just over 500 employees in the region.
A spokesperson for United Airlines spoke to Cleveland.com about the Cleveland route expansion. The spokesperson stated,
"While both routes are spring break seasonals, they do represent our eagerness to grow our CLE non-stop portfolio."
Phoenix service
The airline also revealed it is planning to relaunch its seasonal service to Phoenix in addition to the service to Las Vegas. This service will run daily from March 7th to the end of the month. Then, the operation will continue four times per week in April. United Airlines will also cease operations on the route on May 20. This service will also be operated with a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, similar to the Las Vegas service.
The Phoenix service is scheduled to depart Cleveland at 20:20 local time and arrive in Phoenix at around 23:00 local time. The return flight will depart Phoenix just before midnight and arrive in Cleveland around 6:00 local time.
These two services will be the twelfth and thirteenth direct destinations from Cleveland that are operated by United Airlines. The airline has also previously operated the route connecting Cleveland and Phoenix. The airline ceased this operation in 2014. It brought back the service for a short period of time, from late 2021 to early 2022, before halting operations again.
These routes are somewhat popular at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. Frontier Airlines operates direct flights between Cleveland and Phoenix already. Additionally, both Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines operate nonstop services from Cleveland to Las Vegas.
