The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) recently held a series of networking events in Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata, aimed at strengthening partnerships with the Indian travel trade. These events highlighted Saudi Arabia’s diverse offerings as a top travel destination, with a particular focus on leisure, cultural heritage, corporate travel, and pilgrimage tourism.
The Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) has reaffirmed its commitment to the Indian travel market by hosting a series of high-impact networking events across four major cities in India: Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. These events, held between, were strategically organized to cater to the unique interests and needs of travel professionals in each city. The initiative is part of STA’s broader strategy to strengthen partnerships with Indian travel agents, tour operators, and industry representatives, showcasing Saudi Arabia’s diverse offerings as a premier travel destination.
India represents a significant market for Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector. With a rapidly growing middle class and increasing interest in international travel, Indian tourists are becoming an essential segment for global tourism boards. Understanding this, STA has launched these events to provide tailored information, promote Saudi Arabia’s tourism assets, and foster collaboration with Indian travel partners.
In Ahmedabad, STA emphasized the historical and religious significance of Mecca and Medina, ensuring that travel agents had comprehensive knowledge to offer their clients. Attendees were also briefed on the streamlined visa processes available for Indian pilgrims, including the e-Visa, visa-on-arrival, and stopover visa options, which have been introduced to make the pilgrimage experience as seamless as possible.
Kolkata’s event saw a similar focus on Umrah, with STA representatives providing insights into the services available to Indian pilgrims. The event underscored the importance of Kolkata as a hub for pilgrimage tourism, given the city’s rich cultural heritage and significant Muslim population. STA’s presentations were well-received, with many attendees expressing interest in promoting Umrah packages to their clients.
The Mumbai event highlighted Saudi Arabia’s potential as a top destination for high-end leisure travel. The presentations emphasized the country’s luxury resorts, fine dining options, and exclusive experiences, all designed to attract India’s elite travelers. Additionally, the STA team provided crucial information on visa processes and flight connectivity, making it easier for Indian travelers to plan their trips to Saudi Arabia.
The interactive sessions in Delhi were particularly engaging, with participants taking part in discussions on how to craft unique itineraries that combine business with leisure. STA officials also shared success stories of recent corporate events held in Saudi Arabia, demonstrating the country’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for international business travelers.
One of the key highlights of the STA’s networking events was the detailed information provided on the various visa options available to Indian travelers. Saudi Arabia has introduced several visa facilitation measures to make it easier for Indian tourists to visit the country, whether for leisure, business, or pilgrimage.
Indian passport holders with a valid tourist or business visa from the US, UK, or Schengen countries, along with entry stamps from the issuing country, can now apply for an e-Visa or visa-on-arrival. Additionally, those with permanent residency in these countries can apply at self-service kiosks or passport control offices at Saudi airports.
For those not eligible under these criteria, the STA team provided information on the process of applying through Tasheer Centres across India. This process includes document preparation, appointment booking, application submission, biometric enrollment, and passport collection. Currently, there are 10 visa facilitation centers in Mumbai, Delhi, Cochin, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Lucknow, Kolkata, and Calicut, with plans to add more dedicated centers in additional cities.
STA’s commitment to fostering long-lasting relationships with Indian travel partners was evident throughout the events. By offering firsthand knowledge, insights, and immersive experiences, STA is enabling Indian travel agents to craft exceptional experiences and itineraries for their clients. As Saudi Arabia continues to expand its tourism offerings and make it easier for international travelers to visit, the country is well-positioned to attract a significant share of the Indian outbound travel market.
With its diverse range of attractions, from cultural heritage and adventure tourism to luxury accommodations and religious sites, Saudi Arabia is set to become a preferred destination for Indian tourists in the coming years. The ongoing collaboration between STA and Indian travel partners will play a crucial role in driving this growth and ensuring that Saudi Arabia remains at the forefront of global tourism.
