San Diego leads the western US in 2024 hotel occupancy
San Diego emerged as the best-performing hospitality market in the Western U.S. in 2024, recording a hotel occupancy rate of 74.3%, according to the latest STR report released by the San Diego Tourism Authority (SDTA) and government sources.The city ranked third nationwide, behind only Oahu (79.8%) and New York (84.3%), while outperforming Los Angeles (71.8%) and Orange County (71.6%) for the second consecutive year.
Government forecasts projected 17.4 million room nights sold in 2024, but actual demand exceeded expectations, reaching 17.5 million room nights.Downtown San Diego remained a key driver, accounting for 4.1 million room nights, while the UTC area posted the highest occupancy rate at 77.3%.
