Indian Travelers Set New Standards For Green Tourism In 2025

Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and more, 2025 travel shifts toward sustainability as Indian travelers lead Asia’s eco-conscious tourism surge. India has cemented its position as a frontrunner in sustainable travel, ranking as Asia’s second most eco-conscious travel market, according to Agoda’s 2025 Sustainable Travel Survey. The report highlights that a remarkable 82% of Indian travelers are integrating sustainability into their 2025 travel plans, significantly surpassing the Asian average of 68%. Conducted across 11 Asian markets with insights from over 6,000 travelers, the survey unveils shifting travel preferences toward authentic experiences, off-peak travel, and eco-conscious tourism. Indian travelers, in particular, are prioritizing community impact and meaningful journeys, signaling a transformation in the way they explore the world. Sustainability at the Heart of Indian Travel The study reveals that 24% of Indian travelers are driven by personal values and beliefs when making sustainable travel choices, while 21% actively seek authentic and purposeful tourism. This underscores a growing trend where travelers are not just looking for leisure but also seeking enriching and responsible experiences that positively impact local communities. The shift toward eco-friendly travel practices is further evident in travelers’ conscious choices. A notable 21% of Indian respondents prefer off-peak travel to ease congestion at popular destinations, while 16% each are opting for: Eco-certified accommodations that meet sustainability standards Public transport, walking, or biking instead of private vehicles Reusable travel essentials like water bottles to cut down on waste Agoda’s Eco Deals Program Expands in 2025 To further support sustainable travel, Agoda’s Eco Deals program—launched as part of its 2025 initiative—now offers discounts of up to 15% on partner hotels across 10 Asian markets. For the first time, Japan and South Korea have joined the campaign, giving more India-based travelers the opportunity to support conservation efforts while exploring new destinations. With each Eco Deals booking, Agoda donates $1 to WWF’s conservation projects, which aim to protect wildlife and preserve natural habitats across Asia. The 2025 Sustainability Survey was conducted between February 6-19, 2025, featuring insights from 6,081 respondents across Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. India’s rising commitment to sustainable travel signals a major shift toward responsible tourism, making the country a leader in eco-conscious exploration across Asia.
