Vietnam opens world’s longest glass-bottomed bridge to attract tourists

Vietnam has just launched its latest tourist attraction for tourists with a fondness for heights. As per the reports, the Asian country has opened a glass-bottomed bridge suspended 150 m (490 feet) above a lush jungle. The Bach Long pedestrian bridge, which translates to white dragon, is set in the northwest Son La province around dizzying cliff faces which spans before a spectacular and dramatic valley between two peaks. If reports are to go by, the bridge boasts of a total length of 632 m, whereas the glass floor is made up of French-produced tempered glass. The bridge is strong enough to support up to 450 people at a time. Referring to this, Hoang Manh Duy, a representative of the bridge's operator, stated that when on the bridge, visitors will be able to admire the beauty of nature. As per the company, it’s the world's longest glass-bottomed bridge, which surpasses a 526 m structure in Guangdong, China. However, officials from Guinness World Records are yet to verify the claim next month. Reportedly, Vietnamese tourism chiefs are making all efforts to attract more and more visitors after two years of COVID-19 shutdowns, which kept out almost all of foreign travellers. As reported earlier, Vietnam ended quarantine for international visitors and resumed 15 days of visa-free travel for citizens from 13 countries in mid-March. Vietnam is also set to host the Southeast Asian Games in two weeks, which will witness more than 10000 athletes and sports staff in attendance. Reportedly, the said bridge is also Vietnam's third glass bridge.

Kerala Tourism’s first STREET project inaugurated in Maravanthuruthu, Kottayam

STREET – Sustainable, Tangible, Responsible, Experiential, Ethnic Tourism – is a project developed by Kerala Tourism in order to give the state tourism a makeover, and introduce various new experiences under experiential tourism. There are 10 STREET projects in line, and Maravanthuruthu Water Street is the first of the 10 to be developed by Kerala Tourism through its Responsible Tourism Mission Kerala programme. The Local Self Governments play an important role in this project. The idea behind these STREET projects is to add new and interesting features to the existing list of experiences the state tourism has to offer. The plan is to push forward experiential tourism. Kerala Tourism aims to develop Maravanthuruthu as a sustainable and experiential tourism destination, and inaugurating Maravanthuruthu Water Street – a water street festival – is the first step. In order to make this water STREET experience possible, the Responsible Tourism Mission Kerala, along with the local panchayats, cleaned and revived a total of 18 canal networks and three rivers. Kayaking and night safari expeditions on the canals are included in the plan. Through these STREET projects, the practice of responsible tourism is expected to reach more destinations and consumers. Another plus being, integrating more less-explored destinations into the picture. Just like the Water Street theme, the STREET project has many themes including Green Street, Cultural Street, Ethnic Cuisine Street, Village Experiential Tourism and Art Street to name a few.

Karnataka to screen flyers from Japan and Thailand for Covid at airports

Taking preventive measures against Covid-19, the Karnataka government on Saturday ordered screening, surveillance and tele-monitoring of passengers arriving from Japan and Thailand. On an average the state is registering 110 cases daily with the test positivity rate ranging between 0.9 and 1.1 per cent. “Currently, 2 per cent of international arrivals from designated countries are screened randomly at airports, as per guidelines of the government of India. Further, in view of the recent spurt of Covid-19 cases in China, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, New Zealand, Russia and South Korea, further surveillance may be required. Of the eight countries, direct flight services to Bengaluru are available only from Japan and Thailand. Hence, it is instructed to initiate the surveillance measures for those arriving from Japan and Thailand,” said a circular signed by TK Anil Kumar, principal secretary to the health and family welfare department. “At Bengaluru International Airport and Mangaluru International Airport, the arrivals should undergo thermal screening on arrival. Testing through RT-PCR should be done for the symptomatics at the airport testing laboratory and for those found positive, the samples shall be sent for genome sequencing. Further treatment and management of Covid patients is to be followed as per the state protocol,” the circular read.

Greece Lifts Covid Curbs for Travellers Ahead of Key Summer Season

Greece lifted Covid-19 restrictions on Sunday for foreign and domestic flights, its civil aviation authority said, ahead of the summer tourism season that officials hope will see revenues bouncing back from the pandemic slump. To fly in or out of the country, travellers were previously required to show either a vaccination certificate, a certificate saying they had recovered from coronavirus or a negative test. From May 1, passengers and crew will need only to wear a face mask, the civil aviation authority said. The summer tourism season typically begins after the Greek Orthodox Easter, which was on April 24. Greece is expecting high numbers of visitors this year, with officials predicting revenues reaching 80% of 2019 levels. That was a record year before the pandemic brought travel to a halt. With infections waning, restaurants and retail shops returned to 100% capacity on Sunday, allowing customers in without proof of vaccination but with a mask. Greece has reported 3,323,922 cases so far and 29,153 deaths from COVID.
