Zulal Discovery was developed, with programmes customised for multigenerations and specific age groups. Our facilities have been designed by child and family specialists to bring families together. Another key feature of our resort is the digital detox policy which we apply in all public areas, powered by the vastness of the desert surrounding, and unobstructed views of the ocean, offering guests a unique opportunity to fully disconnect and reconnect with nature. We invite guests aged 16 and above to explore Zulal Serenity, the adults-only side of the resort boasting 60 rooms and suites offering a calming backdrop to individual journeys of wellness. Zulal Wellness Resort will redefine the concept of wellness, offering unprecedented services that appeal to all members of the community. ETTW: While taking the brand to a new region altogether, how are you making sure that the brand makes sense to the new audience without losing your identity which is based on Southeast Asian hospitality? DV: We follow Chiva-Som’s hospitality value called ‘Jai Thai’, which means service from the heart in Thai. It is one of the mandatory ethics that we practice. It is our ‘credo’ in our day-to-day interactions with our guests, or colleagues which influences our service standards as well. In our daily interactions with guests and staff, we have as well adopted ‘Marhaba’ which means ‘Welcome’, and we place our hand on the heart, a gesture that reflects our service and greetings from our hearts, linking it back to the ‘Jai Thai’ concept. ETTW: What are the key opportunities that you see in the new destination and what difference the property will be making to the hospitality offerings of the place? DV: We are offering a destination that captures the leisure and wellness market in Qatar and beyond, born out of Qatar’s 2030 Vision to achieve the sustainability goal through wellness. The name “Zulal”, which refers to “pure water”, is inspired by the people’s historic journey across the land to the sea and the ever-present search for water, the seed of life – a concept that encapsulates the history, culture, and heritage of Qatar. Drawing on Chiva-Som’s many years of expertise catering to a global audience whilst retaining an inextricable connection with the local culture, we will offer the highest international service standards rooted in traditional Qatari hospitality. Spanning 280,000 square meters, the resort is around an hour’s drive from Qatar’s international hub of Doha, offering excellent accessibility from across the globe. A specially developed menu of Arabic and Mediterranean wellness cuisine, as well as cutting-edge architecture and services inspired by local heritage, ensure we are in the perfect position to become a true showcase of Qatari culture, both traditional and modern. ETTW: What is your focus on markets like India as the region has a sizeable Indian diaspora? DV: India is one of our key markets, drawing on the historic relations the country shares with the gulf region. India is known all over the world for its distinguished wellness practices, particularly the Ayurveda which is one, that is very present in our resort’s offering. We believe that wellness enthusiasts from India will be eager to explore and discover what Qatar has to offer in the wellness sector. Practicing wellness is not an ideology but actual programs and techniques that will ultimately lead to a better life.

Starting January 2, Air India will run additional flights between Delhi and Hong Kong

Before the final handover to the new owners, the soon-to-be disinvested national carrier Air India has announced that it will operate new additional flights between the national capital Delhi and Hong Kong effective January 2, 2022. The airline will now run a total of five flights between the two cities on Sundays in the first month of next year under the Vande Bharat Mission. Sharing the information in a social media post, Air India further said that ‘passengers should read the guidelines carefully before planning their travel & conform to eligibility criteria. Air India will accept no liability in this regard.’ It said that bookings are open through Air India’s website, booking offices, call centre, and authorised travel agents. The announcement comes amid the huge demand for travel between India and various countries abroad, but the spread of the new Omicron Covid-19 variant has also affected the appetite to travel internationally. It is worth mentioning that foreseeing anticipated flight restrictions and stringent travel rules, airfares, and bookings for the next fortnight are rising high due to limited availability of flights, suspension of regular scheduled commercial flights, and the ongoing season-end Christmas and New Year travel. Earlier, the airline had announced to run additional flights between India and the US from December 21 till the end of March 2022 under the air bubble flight agreement. Air India later announced to extend flights between Kolkata and Bangkok as well till March 2022, which was earlier scheduled to run till December 29, 2021. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, Hong Kong has maintained some of the world's toughest quarantine restrictions. Most travellers arriving in Hong Kong must undergo 21 days of hotel quarantine and frequent testing before being allowed out. The ones coming from Omicronaffected nations must undergo four days of institutional quarantine at a government facility before serving the rest of the quarantine in the hotel. Last week, Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker, one of Cathay's main shareholders, warned Hong Kong was ‘killing’ its aviation industry with its rules.

Kerala's rickshaw-hailing app Tukxi rides into Thiruvananthapuram

Are you tired of shouting aye auto? A new Indian ride-finding app, Tukxi, that was launched in Kerala in 2020 is a one-stop destination for commute services. The app which was initially operational in Kochi has now been expanded to Thiruvananthapuram. With India’s vast population being loyal to the common man’s ride - autorickshaw, Tukxi aims to combine it with haggle-free commuting and affordability for the customers. Tukxi strives to empower drivers by enabling them to earn their entitled fee on the basis of a governmentapproved meter charge along with providing riders a safe and seamless way to hail rides ousting them from the time-consuming process with speedy service. Tukxi claims to connect the rider to the nearest auto stand rather than a driver and only in the unavailability of drivers in that auto stand will the ride go to the nearest available driver on the premises bringing the chances of driver’s cancellation to less than 5%. With a focus on bringing an additional source of income for the auto drivers, Tukxi has also ventured into home delivery system in collaboration with numerous well-known brands. Tukxi has registered over 1500 auto-rickshaw drivers and as a part of their social initiatives, they have also offered a helping hand to their drivers by holding a free vaccination drive for over 100 drivers. Tukxi had also joined hands with the Kochi Corporation to give their share to the society by distributing food packets and essential kits to the adversely affected sections during the triple lockdown in Kerala. The app intends to extend its market by introducing taxis without much delay. In addition to these, they are looking at introducing electric twowheelers for the delivery of items from one place to another. And to facilitate booking for senior citizens who are less affluent in technology, Tukxi has also established a toll-free number.

The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has completed the expansion work of the first phase of smart Apron at Terminal 1, with 19 new parking standing operational now, suitable for A320 & B737 aircraft type, in the first phase after getting necessary approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This is part of the INR 19,000 crore expansion work currently underway at the Delhi airport. A Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) spokesperson said that out of 82 Code C aircraft type parking stands, 19 have been constructed and the total number of such stands and T1 Apron now stands at 82 from 55 prior to the commencement of phase 3A. This includes 22 contact stands, and eight MARS stands, which can cater to both Code C and Code E aircraft. According to DIAL officials, the new apron would help reduce air traffic congestion on the airside. “The creation of new contact stands would lead to a reduction in the number of Ground Support Equipment (GSE). This will ensure faster aircraft turnaround time and improve safety in the Apron area, resulting in improved operational efficiency on the airside,” the official said. The airport further said that post completion of phase 3A expansion works, the passenger handling capacity of Delhi Airport would increase to 100 million passengers per annum “The new smart apron will not only facilitate improved passenger experience by improving operational efficiency and safety on the airside but also contribute towards significantly reducing harmful CO2 emissions, underlining DIAL’s commitment to environment-friendly outcomes and initiatives,” it said.
