Budget 2020: Tourism industry to get INR 2500 crore budget boost

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Budget speech on Saturday, announced a number of steps to renovate and set up museums to boost tourism in the country. The Finance Minister announced the development of on-site museums at five archaeological sites in the states of Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Assam, Gujarat, Assam and Uttar Pradesh. In her second Union Budget, she further stated that the on-site museums would be developed at Adichanallur in Tamil Nadu, Rakhigarhi in Haryana, Sivasagar in Assam, Dholavira in Gujarat, and Hastinapur in Uttar Pradesh. She also mentioned setting up of a tribal museum in Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand. The Minister also announced the proposal of setting up an Indian Institute of Heritage and Conservation under the Ministry of Culture. While presenting the Budget for 2020-21, she announced that INR 2500 crore will be allocated to the Ministry of Tourism and that INR 3150 crore will be allocated to the Ministry of Culture.

Corona virus is costing the global tourism industry billions since big-spending Chinese travelers are now stopped from leaving the country.Hotels, airlines, casinos and cruise operators are among the businesses worst affected by the virus which has claimed 131 lives in China so far, with almost 6,000 infected worldwide. The impact has become worse with the deadly flu-like virus striking over the Lunar New Year holiday, which is usually a booming time for Chinese travel.The biggest threat so far is for China’s closest neighbors, with the U.S. and Europe likely to suffer major setbacks if the corona virus outbreak prolongs.In Thailand, a favorite destination for Lunar New Year travel, officials are estimating potential revenue loss at 50 billion baht (£1.2 billion).

Royal Caribbean officially opened the new Coco Beach Club – which includes floating cabanas – on Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas.The opening marks the completion of the $250 million transformation and first phase of Perfect Day at CocoCay. The beach club also has an oceanfront infinity pool, beach cabanas, a dedicated restaurant and a bar. Rounding out Perfect Day at CocoCay is the opening of two refreshed beaches – Breezy Bay at Chill Island and South Beach – open to all guests. The 20 floating cabanas are the first of their kind in the Bahamas. Each floating cabana features a private slide into the ocean, overwater hammock, dining area, freshwater shower and wet bar.
