Thai Airlines Offer Free Domestic Flights to Promote Hidden Gems

Thailand is opening the door for international travellers to experience its lesser-known destinations with an innovative tourism initiative. Through free domestic flights offered by Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and VietJet Thailand, visitors can now explore hidden gems across the country that often remain off the typical tourist map. This program aims to encourage travel beyond popular cities, distribute tourism more evenly, and boost regional economies, giving travellers the chance to discover authentic local culture, scenic landscapes, and unique experiences without additional travel costs. To fund this effort, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports is using THB 700 million, or about USD 21.5 million, from its central budget. Each free ticket covers a round-trip flight valued at THB 3,500, which is roughly USD 107, and allows passengers to check 20 kilograms of luggage. Wy the plan, passengers must first buy a long-haul international ticket. Partner airlines, including Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and VietJet Thailand, will serve a wide range of destinations, giving passengers several travel choices. International guests can easily book their Thailand flights with partner airlines or via well-known travel websites. When they land, qualifying travellers get vouchers for free domestic flights, letting them discover dozens of charming, less-visited islands and towns. This clever scheme nudges tourists away from crowded well-known spots and gives smaller villages a chance to greet fresh faces, spreading the economic benefits of travel right across the country.
