Himachal Pradesh sees a festive tourism boom, with hill stations packed for Christmas and New Year celebrations, fueled by snowfall forecasts and vibrant events.
Himachal Pradesh is witnessing a remarkable surge in tourist arrivals, as travelers from across the nation flock to the scenic state to celebrate Christmas and New Year. Popular hill stations like Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, Dalhousie, Kufri, Narkanda, and Kasauli have been bustling with visitors since the weekend, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.
Hotel occupancy rates reflect the high demand, with Shimla at 80%, Dharamshala and Manali at 70%, and Kasauli seeing an impressive 90% occupancy. Adding to the excitement, the weather department has predicted snowfall on December 27 and 28, further fueling tourist interest and drawing even more visitors to these picturesque destinations.
However, the influx of tourists has brought logistical challenges, particularly in terms of traffic congestion and parking shortages. Shimla’s narrow roads, overwhelmed by the surge in vehicles, have led to severe traffic jams, especially on Cart Road, which has been heavily congested for the past two days. Parking woes have compounded the problem, with limited spaces near popular spots like the Ridge and Mall Road forcing tourists to park in unauthorized areas, worsening the gridlock.
These challenges extend beyond Shimla to other hill stations like Manali, Dharamshala, and Kasauli. In Manali, the snow-covered Rohtang Pass has become a major attraction, but the lack of sufficient parking facilities has caused long queues of vehicles, frustrating visitors. Similarly, Dharamshala and Kasauli are grappling with traffic bottlenecks as roads leading to key attractions become increasingly clogged with cars.
