India connecting world! ‘Country becoming convenient hub for travel between South East Asia and West Asia’, says IndiGo parent exec

IndiGo-parent InterGlobe Aviation’s Chairman of the Board of Directors V Sumantran has said that India is gradually marking its place as a convenient hub for travel between Southeast Asia and West Asia as airlines are preferring to move people by connecting through Indian cities. Sumantran said that there is huge growth in India and many domestic routes are used by airlines for connectivity. Speaking at the 65th Institute Day of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, he highlighted that IndiGo Airlines commenced as a budget carrier in 2006 and has secured a landmark position in the aviation sector with its monumental order of 500 aircraft in France, marking the largest single order in the industry’s history. “India needed an airline that will provide affordable travel for many of us and the net result we can see. Even now we see India really moving forward with a lot more speed on infrastructure development. We have about 140 operating airports now and that would become 220 by 2030. We are seeing a huge increase in regional travel,” Sumantran said. He cited an example of several airlines transferring people from places like Bangkok via India to reach Jeddah or Dubai, adding India is becoming a convenient hub for the airlines. “So, there is huge growth that we can see coming out of this which has boldly allowed us to place an order of 500 aircraft that is the single largest aircraft order ever made in aviation history,” he added.

Australian Govt issues new travel advice for India as world’s biggest election begins

India’s election process is so enormous, that it has to be held across several weeks – six to be precise. And with almost 1 billion people casting their votes during that time, it obviously presents its challenges. This year, polling for the election takes place between 19 April and 1 June, with results to be announced on or around 4 June. In an update on its Smartraveller website this month, DFAT says, “Frequent political rallies and possible protests are likely to occur in the lead-up to, during, and after the election”. “You can expect traffic delays and restricted access to locations. Avoid protests and demonstrations and monitor local media for the latest updates,” it adds. Specifically, it points out that “curfews and restrictions continue in parts of Manipur following violent demonstrations, resulting in casualties”. “Security agencies have increased their presence in the region. Mobile internet and transport services continue to be affected. Further restrictions may be imposed at short notice,” DFAT adds. “If you’re in Manipur, avoid demonstrations and large public gatherings, follow the advice of local authorities, take official warnings seriously and monitor local media for updates.” There is also often a ban on alcohol sales in some parts of India during election periods, or at least a curfew on the sale of alcohol. Overall in India, the Australian Government recommends travellers“exercise a high degree of caution” due to “the threat of terrorism and crime and the risk of civil unrest”. While it is still business as usual for the tour companies Karryon has spoken to that operate in India – like Intrepid Travel and G Adventures – operators are remaining vigilant and agile to the possibility of situations arising. “We will continue to assess the situation and provide any necessary updates or special advice to our guests as needed,” Intrepid Travel’s India Operations Manager Sachin Bhargava told Karryon. “Our operations will continue as usual, but we remain vigilant and prepared to make adjustments if required to ensure the safety and comfort of our travellers. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will adhere to any updated guidelines provided by government authorities and agencies.”

Indian Railways announces highest train trips ever

In order to accommodate a higher volume of passengers and facilitate travel to various destinations, the Railway Ministry has announced a significant increase in train services for the upcoming summer season. Compared to last year, there will be a substantial surge of 43% in the number of train trips operated by the ministry. “To ensure the convenience of passengers and manage the anticipated surge in travel demand during summers, the Indian Railways is operating a record-breaking 9,111 trips during the summer season,” stated a press release from the Railway Ministry. “This marks a substantial rise compared to the summer of 2023, where a total of 6,369 trips were offered. This translates to an increase of 2,742 trips, demonstrating the Indian Railways’ commitment to meeting passenger demands effectively.” According to the ministry, the additional trains have been meticulously planned to connect key destinations across the country, ensuring seamless travel on major railway routes. Out of these 9,111 train trips, the Western Railway will operate the highest number – 1,878 – followed by the North Western Railway with 1,623 trips. Other Railway zones that will run a significant number of trips include the South Central Railway (1,012 trips) and the East Central Railway (1,003). “All zonal railways spread across India have geared up to operate these additional trips catering to the summer travel rush from states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi,” added the Railway Ministry. Before deciding to increase train trips, the ministry collects inputs from all communication channels 24×7, including media reports, social media platforms, and the Railway Integrated helpline number 139, in addition to details of waitlisted passengers in the PRS system, to assess the demand for trains on specific routes. “Based on this requirement, the number of trains and the number of trips are augmented. Neither the number of trains nor the number of trips run by additional trains are static for the entire season,” emphasised the ministry. The ministry has also directed Zonal Railways to ensure the availability of drinking water at railway stations during the summer season. “Elaborate crowd control arrangements are made at all major and important railway stations. Senior officers are stationed at these stations to monitor all activities and regulate the crowd in a systematic manner,” further stated the ministry. Regulation of crowds at foot-over bridges Additionally, the ministry has issued instructions to deploy Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at foot-over bridges to regulate crowds smoothly, thereby avoiding stampede-like situations during periods of heavy rush.

This glowing forest in Indian's Western Ghats proves nature never fails to amaze!

Nature holds countless surprises, but only for those keen enough to witness or experience them firsthand. Well, you would be surprised to witness those sights, but nature can has unbelievable treasures that are capable of producing effects so extraordinary that even artificial intelligence pales in comparison to that. One such marvel awaits explorers in the Western Ghats, particularly in the states of Goa and Maharashtra! There are actually forests that emit an ethereal green glow after nightfall. To witness this breathtaking spectacle, you can start with exploring the Bhimashankar Wildlife Reserve, where the nocturnal luminescence of the forest bewitches visitors with its rarity and uniqueness. Throughout the monsoon season, India's luminous forest experiences heavy rainfall, rendering it the most usual forest found anywhere in India in daylight. However, as night descends, the forest undergoes a captivating metamorphosis, aglow with radiant luminescence. But what causes this enchanting phenomenon? The phenomenon is attributed to Mycena, a bacteria distinct from others, which possess a unique trait that causes it to emit light in the presence of ample moisture. These bacteria adhere to branches, decaying leaves, and twigs, akin to fungus, resulting in the mesmerizing bioluminescent effect that bathes the forest in radiant hues. This captivating spectacle is particularly prominent in the secluded village of Ahupe during the monsoon season. Despite extensive study, scientists remain puzzled as to why these bacteria possess such luminescent properties. Referred to by scientists as bioluminescence, this natural phenomenon isn't confined to the ocean; it also occurs within forests, with this particular forest serving as proof of its occurrence. As per the records, scientists are yet to solve the mystery of predicting the next occurrence of this luminous phenomenon. However, for the fortunate few, stumbling upon this Avatar-like forest could offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience beyond comparison. Do note that this bioluminescent spectacle is not a daily occurrence. However, you might be fortunate enough to witness it following an evening of intense rainfall during the monsoon period, typically in July, August, and September. Also, fireflies are more readily observed in the pre-monsoon months of May and June.
