G20 SUMMIT: WHAT’S OPEN AND CLOSED IN DELHI, AND ROUTES TO AVOID

Delhi is all geared up to host one of the biggest events of the year, the G20 Summit, from September 9-10. For your information, all heads of the state and dignitaries from 20 leading economies of the world will start arriving in the national capital a day earlier. For their smooth travel, authorities will be imposing a set of traffic restrictions. Referring to this, the Delhi Traffic Police has also released a detailed advisory for the people so that they don't get stuck somewhere, or face any type of inconvenience during the summit period. Do note that the New Delhi area, where the summit will be held, will remain out of bounds from the night of September 7. So, here is all that you need to know about what will remain closed and open during these dates. Authorities added that those living in the area will be allowed entry and exit, but those coming from outside will need special passes. All non-destined vehicles will be diverted towards Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways and other alternative routes. In short, these vehicles will be denied entry to Delhi. Also note, heavy and light goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi, where those carrying essential commodities like fruits, milk, vegetables, and medical supplies will be allowed to enter into Delhi. Emergency medical vehicles will not be stopped, whereas metro and bus services will remain operational, but with some restrictions in place. Abu Dhabi International Airport to welcome travellers to new terminal from November 2023

Abu Dhabi Airports has announced the forthcoming opening of its state-of-the-art new terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Known as Midfield Terminal Building during the construction phase, ‘Terminal A’ is scheduled to begin operations in early November 2023. Adding a world-class facility to Abu Dhabi’s rapidly evolving transportation infrastructure, the opening will mark a significant milestone for the emirate that has the potential to transform the local aviation ecosystem, strengthen Abu Dhabi’s growing reputation as a destination of choice for travellers, and further boost its position as a global hub for trade and business. Equipped with the latest technologies, Terminal A boasts a range of interconnected biometric systems that will invite passengers to enjoy the speed and comfort of a seamless, digitised journey from pre-travel to the boarding gate, facilitated by self-service kiosks, streamlined security checkpoints and state-of-the-art baggage handling systems. During her India visit, the Department of Treasury said, Yellen will focus on strengthening the global economy and supporting low and middle-income countries by advancing multilateral development bank (MDB) evolution, debt restructuring, and the IMF's Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust (PRGT). Yellen will continue to build momentum for the collective effort that she helped launched last October to evolve the multilateral development banks so the MDBs to have the right vision, incentives, operational models and financing capacity to address critical global priorities like combating climate change, addressing pandemics and global health security, and tackling fragility and conflict, the release stated. The Treasury estimates that the MDBs as a system could unlock USD 200 billion over the next decade just from the measures already being implemented or under deliberation as part of this process – with potential for even more if MDBs undertake some of the longer-term and more complex recommendations in the G20 Capital Adequacy Framework report, including on callable capital, it said. "While in New Delhi, Yellen will continue to rally America's partners to maintain our collective economic support for Ukraine, including through contributions from across our coalition. She will also highlight the importance of imposing severe costs on Russia and mitigating global spillovers," the Treasury said. "Yellen and our partners will work to address the consequences of Russia's unprovoked war to global growth and poverty reduction, including through the price cap, which has been achieving its dual goals of reducing Russian revenue while keeping global energy prices stable, as well as efforts to strengthen global food security through the MDBs, leveraging multilateral tools such as the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP), and working towards a successful replenishment of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD),” it said. India a leading inbound travel market: Trevolution

Trevolution Group, a travel firm operating Asaptickets, Skyluxtravel, Dreamport and other travel brands, says it has sold over 38,600 tickets for flights to and from India in the first six months of the current year, translating into a 65 pc growth over the corresponding period in the previous year. In a press statement, the Trevolution says that this amounts to over USD 65 million, or 10 pc of overall company’s gross bookings. India has become one of the leading travel destinations for customers from the United States. The increased demand for affordable flights shows the growing potential this market holds across the traditional leisure tourism and visiting-friends-and-relatives (VFR) segments. According to the statement, India has emerged as one of the top destinations for Trevolution Group customers across the globe with a stable 38 pc growth in inbound travel. Compared to the same period last year, there has also been a 273 pc increase in outbound tourism from Indian airports, indicating this market’s rapidly growing demand for affordable international travel, it adds. The statement says that most popular departure countries to reach India from have been the United States, Canada, as well as the United Kingdom, with three times more flights compared to the same period in 2022. This trend is directly linked to Trevolution Group launching ticketing operations in the UK at the beginning of this year, where a large portion of the population is of Indian descent and represents the VFR segment. It adds that Mumbai and Delhi are the two most popular Indian airports, while most US passengers originated from New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas and Washington so far in 2023. In class of travel, Trevolution says that economy tickets increased the most in sales during H1, resulting in 60 pc growth in flights from India and a 43 pc growth in tickets sold to India. Premium economy too, has shown a positive tendency in growing demand both among Indian travellers as well as globally. Trevolution says that while last year one in every five travellers going to India flew business class, in the first half of 2023, this number has dropped slightly to 15 pc. The share of one-way tickets has stayed at nearly the same level and amounted to 16.5 pc, compared to 13.5 pc in 2022, which rose from 12 pc in 2019. The number of business class passengers flying from India stayed stable as 1 in 10 customers chose to fly business class in H1, 2023, while this number was 15 pc of all travellers in H1 2022, says Trevolution. The statement adds that the average price for a standard round-trip economy ticket, the most popular ticket type at 83.5 pc, has stayed at the same level as last year and was purchased one to three weeks in advance mostly. That indicates the current trend of travellers planning their trips far ahead and choosing security and flexibility In addition, Trevolution says that the number of short-term bookings from India has decreased in both 2023 and 2022, and thus the average length of stay abroad for customers is now 101 days versus 92 days or three months in the same period last year. Meanwhile, for travellers coming to India this period has been one month in the first half of the year both in 2022 and 2023 which is an average timeframe for international travel, adds the firm.

India, NZ Sign MoU To Boost Aviation Ties

India and New Zealand have signed of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), encompassing the scheduling of new air routes, codeshare services, traffic rights, and capacity entitlements. According to the MoU, New Zealand‘s designated airline(s) gain the flexibility to operate an unrestricted number of services employing various aircraft types. Furthermore, they secure third and fourth freedom traffic rights for travel to and from six key Indian cities: New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. This development builds upon the foundation established when India and New Zealand inked the Air Services Agreement on May 1, 2016. The governments of both nations have undertaken a comprehensive review of their existing air service arrangements, with the expectation that this initial pact will further deepen bilateral ties in civil aviation. The MoU was formally signed by Rajiv Bansal, the Civil Aviation secretary, and David Pine, the High Commissioner of New Zealand. Notably, the signing ceremony featured the presence of Jyotiraditya Scindia, the Minister of Civil Aviation from India, and his New Zealand counterpart, the Minister for Trade Growth, Agriculture, Biosecurity, Land Information, and Rural Communities, O’Connor. Scindia expressed his optimism about the agreement, stating, “We have signed an MoU that has opened the possibilities of furthering air transport between our two countries.” He underscored the adoption of an open sky policy, the expansion of designated points of call, and the addition of intermediate points to bolster connectivity. Under the terms of the agreement, India’s designated airlines also gain extensive rights. They can operate an unrestricted number of services with diverse aircraft types, securing third and fourth freedom traffic rights for routes to and from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and three additional destinations in New Zealand, as designated by the Indian Government.
