Tirano Launches Scenic Panoramic Train Through the Alps
A Scenic Journey Transforming Global Train Travel Experiences
The Bernina Express, hailed as one of the most picturesque rail adventures in the world, was said to chart an extraordinary course through Switzerland and Italy, covering 89 miles of ever-changing natural beauty. Passengers were believed to have been mesmerized by a parade of glaciers, alpine lakes, towering peaks, and even lush palm trees, as the train passed through 55 tunnels and over 196 bridges in uniquely crafted panoramic coaches.
Travel analysts noted that although the ride takes just four to four-and-a-half hours, its influence on European tourism may be far-reaching. Unlike the longer-running Glacier Express, which links Zermatt with Saint Moritz, the Bernina Express was viewed as a shorter yet profoundly scenic alternative ideal for travelers seeking both efficiency and unforgettable views.
Starting its voyage in Chur, recognized as Switzerland’s oldest city, the Bernina Express ends in Tirano, a charming northern Italian town. Along the route, it glides through the Rhaetian Railway, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 due to its exceptional construction and routing through the rugged Alpine terrain.
