Canada Unveils Major Economic Impact Study for Business Events to Enhance Travel and Tourism Opportunities
Canada has officially launched a groundbreaking national study to measure the economic impact of business events, including conferences, conventions, exhibits and large meetings. The initiative is led by Destination Canada in partnership with industry stakeholders and advocacy groups such as Meetings Mean Business Canada, aiming to provide the first comprehensive evaluation of how business events contribute to Canada’s economy and tourism sector.
The study will analyse data from up to 16 significant events held between 2018 and 2024, covering economic, social and environmental impacts across key sectors like life sciences, natural resources, finance, agribusiness and digital industries.
This research initiative reflects a growing recognition by Canadian authorities that business events are a major driver of travel, investment, and long‑term relationships — far beyond simple delegate attendance and ticket sales. With early findings expected to be released incrementally, a full consolidated report is anticipated by 2026, helping policymakers understand how business events influence travel patterns, tourism spending and regional development.
