Khorfakkan Port Expansion to Supercharge UAE Coastal Tourism
The development of UAE tourism is promising due to the mega-project, which makes the emirate an attractive destination for visitors. The project under consideration aims to develop the port of Khorfakkan, located on the eastern coast of Sharjah. The proposed solution will help to increase the capacity of the Emirate’s biggest port to 10 million of containers, which will improve trade and transportation processes. Undoubtedly, the given project will benefit from the development of the local economy and international competitiveness due to the provision of enhanced transit-capacity. Nonetheless, the expansion of Khorfakkan Port, which is projected to be completed by 2030, can also attract more tourists to Sharjah’s east coast through promoting cruise tourism, coastal development, upscale services, and international visitors.
Khorfakkan has a unique advantage because it combines a world-class maritime gateway with natural beauty. The city offers a rare mix of mountains, beaches, marine activities and cultural experiences. As the port becomes more connected to global shipping networks, Khorfakkan has the potential to emerge as a stronger tourism destination on the UAE’s eastern coastline.
