Thailand Revises Visa-Free Stay Policy for Australian Travellers

The Thai government has officially announced the removal of a visa exemption that allowed citizens from 93 countries, including Australia, to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days without a visa. This decision restores the pre-2024 visa framework, which offered shorter stays as standard. Officials cite the need for improved national security, economic stability, and streamlined immigration management as primary motivations for the change. Under the new rules, most nationals who were eligible for 60-day visa-free entry will now only qualify for a 30-day stay without a formal visa. The revised policy will also simplify the various visa-on-arrival categories, reducing confusion and ensuring that entry privileges are more consistent across countries.
