Bangkok Pride Festival 2026 to Showcase Experimental Drag Theatre on Identity and Belonging
Bangkok’s Pride calendar for 2026 will include a standout cultural production on 30 May 2026, when Chakaruna stages “GAWDLAND: I BELONG. Drag Dream — The Journey of Gawdland” at Sphere Hall, Emsphere, as part of the official programme for Bangkok Pride Festival 2026. The show is being positioned as an experimental blend of drag performance, theatre, and live music that reimagines storytelling through identity-driven performance art.
The production marks the first major presentation by Chakaruna, a Bangkok-based collective focused on creating immersive cultural experiences that merge performance, dialogue, and community participation. Rather than treating theatre as a passive viewing experience, the organisation aims to build emotionally engaging environments where audiences experience narrative through movement, sound, and visual expression.
At the centre of the performance is a story inspired by a drag artist’s rise from Bangkok’s underground creative spaces to international recognition. The narrative is not presented as a straightforward biography, but as a symbolic journey shaped by memory, transformation, and self-realisation. It moves between personal milestones and emotional turning points, using performance as a way to explore how identity is formed and reformed over time.
