Italy has moved a significant Sicilian island-connectivity project from construction into operation, with the Palermo-built Costanza I di Sicilia declared operational from Porto Empedocle on 6 August for daily links to Linosa and Lampedusa. The deeper tourism story is now whether higher-capacity, technologically advanced and publicly owned maritime infrastructure can support travel beyond the summer peak.
