Ghana Leads West Africa's Regional Travel Rise

By 2026, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria, among other nations in West Africa, are expected to concentrate on intra-regional travel to West Africa primarily via travel and tourism. Previously, traveler interest to Africa was limited to ‘normal’ African tours. Now, travelers want to visit West Africa to experience multi-country cultural and ecotourism and adventure vacations. West Africa is more than just multiple travel destinations. It has become an integrated travel region, and travelers are able to cross the region from one end to the other. This region has accomplished connectivity after many years of labor, and it would be wrong to attribute connectivity to the opening of one border, or even to a new travel promotion. The constructive engagement of many West Africa countries has undoubtedly improved continental travel and regional tourism. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) established a Free Movement Protocol, with the right to free movement of persons within the community and facilitative arrangements for visa-free travel.
