Sambit Patra is the new ITDC Chairman for 3 years, GVK Rao to remain the Managing Director

National Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Sambit Patra has been appointed as the new Chairman of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. G Kamala Vardhan Rao, the current Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) will remain the Managing Director. The 1990 batch IAS officer will continue at the post till further orders. Earlier, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India had proposed the government to split the post of CMD of the ITDC and appoint separate Chairman and Managing Director. In the past, Patra had served as an independent Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). Professionally, Patra is a qualified surgeon with MBBS and MS from Odisha. “The ACC has approved the proposals of the Ministry of Tourism of splitting of the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) into two posts of Chairman, ITDC and Managing Director (MD) ITDC; appointment of Dr Sambit Patra as part-time Non-Executive Director and Chairman of ITDC for a period of three years from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier,” the official order stated.
