Riyadh Metro Expands Service With Red And Green Lines Now Opens For Passenger Travel
The Riyadh metro project entered its next stage on December 15 with the commencement of passenger services on the Red and Green lines.
With five of the six planned lines now operational, the network has made significant progress. King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud officially unveiled the metro system on November 27, followed by the opening of the Blue, Purple, and Yellow lines on December 1. The Orange Line is expected to open on January 5.
The Red Line spans 25.1 km, running east to west and linking King Fahd Sport City to King Saud University. It includes 15 stations, with key stops like the Riyadh Exhibition Centre. The line connects with the Blue Line at STC, the Green Line at the Ministry of Education, and the Purple Line at Al Hamra station.
The Green Line stretches 13.3 km from the Ministry of Education to the National Museum, featuring 12 stations. These stations will serve important government sites such as the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Commerce, along with various commercial, residential, and service areas. The Ministry of Finance and National Museum stations are yet to open. The Green Line provides connections with the Red Line at the Ministry of Education and with the Blue Line at the National Museum.
