Snowfall in Odisha: Sundergarh & Mayurbhanj Transform into Winter Wonderlands
Odisha recently experienced an extraordinary winter spectacle as the districts of Sundergarh and Mayurbhanj got blanketed in snowfall and heavy frost, thereby transforming some of the regions into enchanting cold-weather paradises. Reports add that the temperatures plunged to a rare low of 3°C recently drawing attention from tourists and creating a buzz across the state. Referring to this, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a yellow warning, cautioning residents about an impending cold wave.
In Sundergarh’s Koida area, the sight of snow-dusted fields and frost-covered vehicles greeted residents on Sunday morning. The chilling weather extended to nearby regions like Tensa, Kalta, Malda, and Kasira, where frost settled heavily, creating a breathtaking winter landscape. Similarly, Mayurbhanj’s renowned Similipal region, famous for its wildlife and trekking trails, experienced intense frost as temperatures remained below 3°C for three consecutive days.
The freezing conditions did impact daily life, particularly for workers, students, and the elderly. Many have turned to traditional methods such as lighting bonfires and layering up in warm clothing to cope with the biting cold. Despite these challenges, the weather phenomenon has sparked widespread fascination, making the otherwise temperate Odisha a hub for winter enthusiasts.
