New Helicopter Service to Connect Poonch, Jammu & Mendhar

In a recent update, a new helicopter service has been introduced in Jammu and Kashmir to connect the cities of Jammu, Poonch, and Mendhar. It marks a major step in improving transportation in the region. This initiative, approved by the central government, follows a proposal from Mohammad Aijaz Asad, the Civil Aviation Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. The service aims to enhance connectivity between Jammu, the region’s winter capital, and the remote areas of Poonch and Mendhar, offering more efficient transportation options for residents. The new helicopter service is designed to improve the lives of those living in isolated areas with challenging terrains, particularly during harsh winters. Asad emphasised that the subsidised service would provide vital transportation, including emergency medical services, to these areas, which often struggle with access due to difficult geographic conditions. This service will also facilitate improved infrastructure and convenience for residents. In addition to addressing transportation needs, the helicopter service is expected to boost tourism, particularly in the Mendhar sector, known for its stunning landscapes. By improving connectivity, the service will make the region more accessible to tourists, fostering the development of border tourism. Asad highlighted that this project would not only connect remote locations but also improve the overall quality of life for the people living there.
