Oman Establishes New Tourism Association to Boost Local Enterprises

The Sultanate of Oman has officially announced the establishment of the Oman Tourism Association (OTA) through a decision issued by the Minister of Social Development. This pivotal move aims to streamline tourism operations in the country, ensuring that all services comply with current laws and regulations. The association is expected to play a critical role in shaping the future of Oman’s tourism sector by fostering growth, promoting innovation, and aligning efforts with global best practices. The OTA has outlined its key objectives, which include organizing and enhancing tourism services across Oman. By promoting collaboration among stakeholders, the association seeks to position Oman as a premier global tourist destination. Its objectives emphasize fostering cooperation between relevant authorities, helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) thrive, and encouraging the implementation of best practices within the industry. The association’s mandate extends beyond operations to encompass research, idea generation, and policy recommendations. Through publications such as magazines and brochures, it aims to provide stakeholders with actionable insights and strategies to overcome sector challenges. The OTA will focus on supporting local enterprises, particularly SMEs, by creating opportunities for growth and development. This includes mentoring new entrants in the tourism industry, helping them navigate challenges, and leveraging resources effectively. By fostering a business-friendly environment, the association seeks to strengthen Oman’s tourism ecosystem, ensuring that local content becomes an integral part of the sector’s offerings. The initiative also underscores the importance of maximizing local value in tourism. Programs and initiatives will be developed to highlight Oman’s rich cultural and natural assets, ensuring they are presented authentically while providing economic benefits to local communities. The association will be managed by a board of directors comprising 12 members, each serving a two-year term. This leadership team will oversee all aspects of the OTA’s operations, ensuring alignment with its objectives and responsibilities.
