Dubai eases travel curbs on Indians, Emirates to resume flights from June 23

Authorities in Dubai have eased travel restrictions for its residents from certain countries, including India, if they have received two doses of a UAE-approved Covid-19 vaccine, according to a media report. The Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management in Dubai, headed by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced updates to Dubai’s travel protocols for inbound passengers from South Africa, Nigeria and India, effective from June 23, the Gulf News reported. With regard to travel from India, only passengers with a valid residence visa who have received two doses of a UAE-approved vaccine, are allowed to travel to Dubai. There are four vaccines approved by the UAE government - Sinopharm, Pfizer-BioNTech, Sputnik V and Oxford-AstraZeneca, the report added. However, from South Africa and Nigeria, non-residence passengers are also allowed to travel subject to the vaccination and PCR test conditions. A negative test certificate from a PCR test taken 48 hours before departure is required, the report said. The UAE nationals are exempted from this requirement. Only QR-coded negative PCR test certificates are accepted, it said. Furthermore, passengers from India are required to undergo a rapid PCR test four hours prior to departure to Dubai. They must also undergo another PCR test on arrival in Dubai. In addition, following arrival, passengers from India should undergo institutional quarantine until they receive their PCR test result, which is expected within 24 hours, the report added. Following the easing of travel curbs for passengers from India, Emirates airline said it will resume flights connecting India, South Africa and Nigeria to the city from June 23. "Emirates welcomes the latest protocols and measures announced by Dubai's Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management to allow the safe resumption of passenger travel from South Africa, Nigeria and India to Dubai and onwards," said the airline's spokesperson in a statement. "We thank the Supreme Committee for their continuous efforts in monitoring the development of the situation and announcing the appropriate guidelines and protocols to protect the community and safeguard the travel sector," it added. Emirates had suspended passenger flights from India effective until July 6, 2021.

For several months, airlines have been seeking frontline worker status for their employees so that they get priority in getting the jabs. But the severe shortage of Covid vaccines meant that these frontline workers — across all airlines, both government owned and private players — also had to wait for a long time to get the jabs. Unfortunately, this delay saw many employees of several airlines and airports losing their lives to the deadly virus.

Disneyland Paris Reopens after 8 months as France returns to a form of normal life again

France’s tourism sector is taking a further step toward normality with the reopening of Disneyland Paris, two weeks after the country reopened its borders to vaccinated visitors from across the world. Europe’s most frequented theme park in Marne-la-Vallee, east of the French capital, opened its doors on Thursday after nearly eight months of closure. A crowd of smiling visitors was welcomed by Disney characters dancing to the sound of joyful music. “Amazing,” said Debbie Tater. The Delaware resident travelled from the United States to visit her family, including her daughter and two granddaughters, who live in France and whom she hadn’t seen for a year and a half. “Happiest place on earth,” she said, with tears in her eyes. “We couldn’t miss the reopening,” said Elodie Piedfort, from Haute-Loire region in central France. “Because I’m a nurse it’s been a very difficult year and being here, together with my son, is great. And the reopening, moving on is great as well.” Visitors must wear masks inside the park and other measures are in place, including a cap on visitor numbers to ensure distancing. Pauline Baudouin, a Disney fan from Angouleme in western France, said: “We were missing the magic, because it was already a complicated period and we needed to recharge our batteries in this magical world.” Prime Minister Jean Castex said Wednesday that France is returning to “a form of normal life again,” as he announced that people won’t have to wear masks outdoors any more, except in crowded places. On Thursday, Health Minister Olivier Veran said night clubs will be able to reopen in July under strict regulations — a first since the France’s initial lockdown in March last year, The French tourist industry hopes to rebound over the summer as the country welcomes foreign visitors again — on condition they have received one of the four EU-approved vaccines. Travel restrictions eased in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have revised restrictions on travel in the wake of lockdown relaxation in the state. As per the latest guidelines, no travel pass is required for travel from and to such places where the test positivity rate (TPR) has come under eight percent and where the lockdown has been relaxed. However, the passengers have to carry a self-attested affidavit while traveling to these places. That said while travelling to places --where there is a total lockdown --with regards to medical requirements, death or marriage, construction purpose, etc, the travelers will have to obtain a police pass. Also, a police pass will be needed to travel from places where a complete lockdown exists to places where relaxations have come into effect. Police passes will be provided from the police stations if applied with the relevant documents. In the case of places where a triple lockdown exits, travel will be permitted only for exams, medical requirements, and deathrelated matters. Police will be deployed in Bevco outlets in the wake of liquor sales resuming from Thursday. State police chief Loknath Behera instructed intensification of patrolling near the liquor sales outlets.
