Azerbaijan Tourism Board Wins Global Annual Excellence Partner Award Strengthens Strategic Partnership with Trip.com Group to Boost China Tourism Growth

The Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) has earned significant international recognition by receiving the coveted “Global Annual Excellence Partner” award from Trip.com Group, one of the leading global online travel service platforms. This prestigious accolade was awarded on May 26, 2025, in Shanghai, underscoring ATB’s vital role in expanding tourism relations between Azerbaijan and China. Among over one hundred strategic collaborators from Europe and the Middle East, ATB was distinguished as one of the Top 20 partners, reflecting the success of its focused efforts in the Chinese travel market. The collaboration between ATB and Trip.com Group, which began in 2019, has matured into a multifaceted partnership involving joint marketing campaigns aimed at showcasing Azerbaijan’s rich culture, natural beauty, and unique travel experiences to Chinese tourists. In 2024, this partnership was further solidified with the signing of a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding involving Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL). This strategic agreement integrates improved air connectivity with digital promotional initiatives, ensuring seamless access and enhanced visibility for Azerbaijan as an emerging tourist destination in China. In line with this ongoing collaboration, ATB took a prominent role at ITB China 2025, held from May 27 to 29 in Shanghai. At the “Experience Azerbaijan” exhibition stand, ATB joined forces with twelve co-exhibitors, including national carriers like AZAL and prominent destinations such as Shahdag Mountain Resort. The stand offered a vibrant showcase of Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage and tourism assets. Attendees enjoyed an exclusive wine tasting session hosted in partnership with the Azerbaijani Wine House, providing insight into the country’s centuries-old tradition of winemaking, a heritage that dates back thousands of years and is integral to Azerbaijan’s cultural identity. Beyond the sensory experience of wine, visitors were immersed in Azerbaijan’s diverse regional offerings through interactive digital displays and roll-up monitors that presented detailed insights about each area’s attractions. Traditional Azerbaijani delicacies like pakhlava and shekerbura were also available, delivering an authentic culinary experience that highlighted the warmth and hospitality synonymous with Azerbaijani culture. The growing interest among Chinese travelers in Azerbaijan’s tourism offerings has been significantly bolstered by recent visa policy enhancements. The introduction of a mutual visa exemption agreement, alongside a one-year visa-free travel regime effective from July 20, 2024, to July 20, 2025, has dramatically simplified travel procedures between the two nations. These streamlined entry requirements have encouraged more Chinese tourists to explore Azerbaijan’s rich historical sites, breathtaking landscapes, and dynamic urban centers. Recognizing the importance of sustained engagement with the Chinese market, ATB maintains a dedicated representative office in China year-round. This continuous presence facilitates closer cooperation with local travel agencies, media outlets, and strategic partners, ensuring that promotional activities remain targeted and responsive to evolving traveler preferences. The office also supports Azerbaijani stakeholders in adapting offerings to meet the expectations of Chinese visitors, further enhancing the destination’s appeal. As Azerbaijan continues to deepen its tourism connections with China, the country’s diverse attractions—from the ancient Silk Road landmarks to modern ski resorts and the vibrant capital city of Baku—are gaining increased visibility. The strategic alliance between ATB, Trip.com Group, and Azerbaijan Airlines exemplifies a comprehensive approach to tourism development that combines infrastructure improvement, digital innovation, and cultural promotion. This award not only celebrates ATB’s achievements but also marks a new chapter in Azerbaijan’s international tourism expansion, particularly in the fast-growing Chinese market. With favorable visa policies, robust air links, and dynamic marketing campaigns, Azerbaijan is poised to become a top choice for Chinese travelers seeking a unique blend of history, nature, and modern experiences. As the partnership flourishes, future initiatives are expected to focus on further enhancing connectivity, introducing tailored travel packages, and leveraging technology to provide personalized experiences for Chinese tourists. The success of the collaboration serves as a model for effective international tourism partnerships, showcasing how strategic cooperation and cultural exchange can drive mutual growth and prosperity in the global travel industry.
