They are most sensitive to changes in demand and have the strongest desire for innovation.” He singled out three fields of technology – artificial intelligence, green energy and biomedicine – as having the potential to become “multitrillion-dollar industries”. China’s pursuit of high-quality drivers of production, he said, has not only provided dynamism for China’s economic development but also has “created greater cooperation space for companies around the world”. “In many ways, the depth of international cooperation determines the height of human development,” he said, adding that keeping industrial and supply chains stable and smooth and advancing trade and investment promoted the sound development of globalization necessary for global economic growth. Polish President Andrzej Duda shared insights on Poland’s remarkable economic transformation over the past three decades. “Poland has experienced unprecedented growth, becoming a leader in Central Europe,” he said. Emphasizing Poland’s advantageous geography, he said: “Our strategic location and dynamic development make Poland an excellent place for investment and I encourage all to explore the opportunities our country offers”. Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted Viet Nam’s commitment to sustainable and inclusive development, focusing on digital and green economies. “The future hinges on innovation, climate action and high-quality human resources,” he said. “We must adopt a new mindset and approach that is people-centred and comprehensive, ensuring benefits for all.”

Amarnath Yatra 2024 to start soon; 6 things to know about the pilgrimage

The Amarnath Yatra is a revered annual pilgrimage for Hindus, dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. Located in the Himalayas at an altitude of about 3,888 metres in Kashmir, the yatra takes you to the sacred Amarnath Cave, where a naturally occurring ice stalagmite, believed to be a manifestation of Lord Shiva, is formed. From Pahalgam, pilgrims trek approximately 46 kilometres to reach the cave. The route passes through scenic locations such as Chandanwari, Sheshnag, and Panchtarni. Amarnath Yatra 2024 is all set to begin on June 29, and will end on August 19. Here are six things you need to know about this revered annual pilgrimage. Sacred cave shrine The Amarnath Cave is situated at an altitude of about 3,888 metres in the Himalayas. Inside the cave, the Shiva Lingam, a naturally formed ice stalagmite, stands as a revered symbol of Lord Shiva. The formation occurs due to the freezing of water droplets that trickle down from the roof of the cave. The size of the lingam varies with the lunar cycle, waxing during the summer months when the yatra takes place. This phenomenon draws millions of devotees who believe that the lingam embodies Lord Shiva’s presence. The cave also houses two smaller ice formations believed to represent Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha, further adding to its sanctity. Historical and mythological significance The Amarnath Cave is steeped in Hindu mythology. Legend has it that Lord Shiva chose this remote cave to disclose the secret of immortality and creation to his divine consort, Parvati, away from any eavesdroppers. To ensure complete secrecy, Shiva left his Nandi (bull) at Pahalgam, released the moon from his hair at Chandanwari, left his snakes at Sheshnag, and released the five elements at Panchtarni. It is said that Lord Shiva even left behind his son, Ganesha, at Mahagunas Parvat (Mahaganesh Mountain) before entering the cave. Limited accessibility The Amarnath Cave is accessible only for a brief period during the summer months, typically from late June to early August. This is when the weather conditions are relatively stable, and the ice lingam is fully formed. The pilgrimage period coincides with the holy Hindu month of Shravan, considered auspicious for worshipping Lord Shiva. Pilgrims typically choose between two routes: the traditional Pahalgam route (about 46 kilometres) and the shorter but steeper Baltal route (about 14 kilometres). Lost ancient pearl city from 4th century discovered in UAE

As per the latest development, archaeologists believe they may have unearthed the long-lost ancient city of Tu'am, renowned for its pearl industry, on Siniyah Island, located off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the Umm al-Quwain Department of Tourism and Archaeology, researchers have identified a collection of ancient residential buildings that are likely part of the historical city of Tu'am. Historically documented but previously uncertain in location, Tu'am has been the subject of various theories placing it in different parts of the UAE. However, recent excavations on Siniyah Island provide compelling evidence that this may indeed be the site of Tu'am, overturning previous assumptions. Michele Degli Esposti, leading the Italian Archaeological Mission in Umm al-Quwain and affiliated with the Polish Academy of Sciences, expressed excitement about the findings. He elaborated their significance, stating, "This is really exciting. This site is incredibly promising." Tu'am's history dates back to at least the fourth century, reaching its zenith in the sixth century as a prominent city known for its thriving pearl fishing industry. References in ancient texts highlight Tu'am as the capital of a coastal region celebrated for its pearls. The city's decline began with regional conflicts and was exacerbated by a devastating bubonic plague outbreak in the sixth century, which affected the Near East, Mediterranean, and parts of Europe, ultimately leading to Tu'am's gradual disappearance from historical records. Recent archaeological investigations on Siniyah Island have not only uncovered ancient residential units, but also revealed remnants of a pearling village and a Christian monastery from the same era. These discoveries suggest a much larger and more significant settlement than previously recognised. Tim Power of the United Arab Emirates University commented on the scale of the findings, noting, "Our archaeological work has discovered the largest settlement by far ever found on the Gulf coast of the Emirates. It's from the exact period described in early Islamic geographical sources. This is clearly a significant site that no one had previously identified." The presence of a Christian monastery dating from the late sixth to early seventh centuries indicates that Tu'am may have been a Christian settlement for approximately two centuries before the advent of Islam in the region. This discovery adds a new layer to the understanding of Tu'am's cultural and religious history. The ongoing excavations on Siniyah Island offer compelling evidence that Tu'am, the ancient city celebrated for its pearls, may have finally been located. Amadeus launches AI-powered chatbot for hotels

Amadeus is adding a chatbot to its Agency360 Plus data tool - the first step in the travel tech firm’s plans to incorporate Generative AI across its suite of business intelligence products. The chatbot, which will be powered by Microsoft's Azure OpenAI Service, will provide hotel companies with access to agency and corporate booking data, as well as answering questions and data requests in “natural language”. Madrid-based Amadeus said the idea was to enable "less technical staff or novices" to access the tool and apply the results across a variety of functions, including sales. In a statement, the company explained that the new service can give hotel revenue managers access to data on average daily rates (ADRs), room nights and revenue pipeline without the need for manual searches. Michael Yeomans, SVP of business intelligence and data solutions, hospitality, at Amadeus, added: “This is a transformational step forward in our offering to provide more intelligent and responsive technology, an improved user experience and remove the need for hoteliers to manually comb through data. “The tool quickly presents complex information in a simple and easy-to-understand format, freeing up time for hoteliers to focus on more strategic initiatives that drive revenue.” The chatbot is the latest development in Amadeus' ongoing partnership with Microsoft, which has included the integration of Amadeus' Cytric booking and expense platform with the Microsoft 365 suites of tools. The two companies have also piloted the use of an AI-enabled digital assistant to help travellers using Cytric.
