Kaziranga National Park in Assam witnesses record-breaking tourists and revenue in 2023-24

The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) needs no introduction. One of the best wildlife parks in India, the park is home to one-horned rhinos and Bengal tigers. In the 2023-24 financial year, the park experienced a fabulous hike in number of visitors and revenue. According to official records, Kaziranga saw 327,493 footfalls in the previous fiscal year. Among them, 313,574 were domestic while 13,919 were foreigners. A total revenue of INR 88,184,161 was collected. Comparatively, in the 2022-23 fiscal year, there were 314,796 visitors, generating revenue of Rs 83,385,383. An official noted that this surge in tourist numbers and revenue marked the highest since the park was established in 1974, though it was officially established in 1905. The park, known for its beautiful landscapes, diverse wildlife, and iconic species, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has become a favored destination for families and wildlife enthusiasts in recent times, according to the statement. The 2021-22 period had also been prosperous for the park, with 275,000 visitors and revenue collection of INR 6 crore during the tourist season from October 2021 to May 2022. On average, the park typically attracts around 180,000 tourists annually. Kaziranga National Park is a hub of unique biodiversity and natural beauty. Spread across 430 sq km, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is noted for its iconic inhabitants, most notably the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. The park's diverse landscapes is a safe home for a myriad of species, including tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, and countless bird species. Visitors to Kaziranga are treated to exhilarating wildlife safaris, where they can witness these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. Good news for global tourists with Thailand’s tourist boom

Thailand has seen a remarkable influx of international tourists in the first quarter, reporting 9.37 million visitors, which is double the figure recorded by Vietnam, as a result of implementing policies aimed at attracting tourists. This surge is part of a competitive effort within the region to draw in international visitors. The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports highlighted that the majority of these tourists, numbering 1.75 million, came from China, marking the largest national group among the visitors. Following China, Malaysia contributed 1.16 million tourists, with Russia bringing in 622,800 visitors. This significant increase in tourist numbers is attributed to the Thai government’s initiative to offer visa waivers to nationals from various countries, as well as introducing a new scheme that provides medical coverage for tourists in case of accidents, covering expenses up to 500,000 baht (approximately $14,000) and offering compensation of up to one million baht in the event of a death. The country welcomed around 28 million visitors in 2023, which shows a substantial recovery from 11 million the previous year, although this number is still below the pre-pandemic peak of 40 million in 2019. With ambitions set high, Thailand aims to attract 35 million tourists in 2024 and generate tourism revenues of around $55 billion. In comparison, Vietnam saw 4.6 million international tourists in the first quarter, which is only a slight increase of 3.2% from the figures in 2019. This disparity in visitor numbers between Thailand and Vietnam underscores the impact of targeted tourist-friendly policies and highlights Thailand’s successful strategies in revitalizing its tourism sector post-pandemic.
