First mountain flight to Kailash Mansarovar commences from Nepalgunj

In a groundbreaking initiative, the inaugural Kailash–Mansarovar Darshan Flight, marked as the first mountain flight to the sacred Kailash Mansarovar, took off from Nepalgunj with 38 Indian pilgrims on board this Monday. Offering a breathtaking close-up view of the revered Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, the chartered flight soared to an elevation of 27,000 ft, providing a magnificent spectacle of these holy pilgrimage sites. The Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, situated in the Ngari prefecture of the Tibet Autonomous Region, holds profound significance for Hindus globally, and is also revered by Buddhists, Jains, and adherents of Tibet's indigenous Bonpa faith. Following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, China reopened the pilgrimage route in 2023. However, the substantial increase in fees and stringent visa restrictions, particularly for Indian pilgrims, meant that the yatra's practically didn’t happen. Describing the flight to Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar as affordable, efficient, reliable, and safe, Neupane expressed plans for the next chartered flight scheduled for the first week of February. He added that subsequent flights would be organised based on demand, and thereby, create a more accessible and convenient route for pilgrims. “The Indian tourists can feel the divinity without doing much hard work. They don’t need to spend days to see Mt. Kailash. They will get to see it within 1.5 hours,” Lamichhane noted. This initiative will open a new avenue in tourism through this innovative flight, he added. The introduction of this chartered flight will not only simplify the pilgrimage process, but will also contribute to the diversification and expansion of tourism in the region.

Tax roadblock to tourism drive: India isn't 1st choice for foreign tourists

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep and the consecration ceremony at the Ram temple in Ayodhya have reinforced India's focus on tourism, which is still struggling to recover from the effects of Covid-19 amid a stressed geopolitical and economic situation. India offers attractive places for tourism, ranging from one of the wonders of the world, Taj Mahal, to heritage sites such as Khajuraho, Red Fort, Agra Fort, Qutub Minar, Ajanta Caves, Ellora Caves, and from pilgrimage areas like Puri, Rameswaram, Tirupati, Amritsar, Ujjain, Ayodhya, and Kedarnath, to wildlife sanctuaries and parks at Kaziranga, Ranthambore, Kanha, Sariska, and Corbett. Travel and tourism (T&T) was projected to contribute $209.7 billion to the Indian economy in 2023, a little less than the $212.8 billion in 2019, according to the 2023 Economic Impact Research report by the World Travel & Tourism Council. The sector was projected to contribute 6 per cent to the gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023, one percentage pointless than in 2019. It shows that the sector did not recover fully from the Covid-19 period even in 2023.

Bengaluru’s 1st Underground Tunnel Road To Come Up Along Ballari Road; To Link To The Airport

An underground tunnel road in Bengaluru is proposed along the Ballari Road. What is more, it would be the very first such road in the Silicon Valley of India. It will serve as a link to the Kempegowda International Airport. This particular road is proposed in the same area where the underground corridor for Namma Metro has also been planned. Here are all of the important information that you would need to know about this particular infrastructure endeavour. According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, the feasibility study for a double-decker tunnel road is underway as of now. It was commenced by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika or the BBMP. The double-decker tunnel road will be along Ballari Road from Mehkri Circle to Hebbal. It will link to the international airport of Bengaluru. However, as per the article, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited or the BMRCL has already prepared the DPR for the metro corridor. DPR stands for Detailed Project Report. As per a BMRCL source cited in the TOI article, they are not in the know regarding the proposed tunnel road and its alignment. The source also mentioned that making modifications would be time-consuming since the DPR was already prepared. As per BS Prahlad, the Engineer-in-Chief of the BBMP, there is a vacant land located close to Esteem Mall. It will be built up to Palace Grounds. He said that the underground tunnel road would be built and would run around thirty metres below the metro corridor that is coming up.

Centre declares Gujarat's Surat Airport as ‘International Airport’

This decision follows the Union Cabinet's approval in December, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to designate Surat Airport as International Airport. Surat Airport in Gujarat has been officially designated as an ‘International Airport’ by the Indian government, according to a ministry of civil aviation statement shared by news agency ANI. “It is hereby declared that Surat Airport in Gujarat as an International Airport with immediate effect,” the ministry said in its statement. This decision follows the Union Cabinet's approval in December, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to designate Surat Airport as International Airport. The ministry of civil aviation in its December statement said that the transformation of Surat Airport into an international facility is not only aimed at serving as a gateway for global travellers but also aims to streamline import-export operations for the thriving diamond and textile industries. This strategic decision is expected to unlock unprecedented economic potential, positioning Surat as a significant player in the international aviation landscape and ushering in a new era of prosperity for the region. According to the ministry, the elevation of Surat Airport to international status holds great significance in enhancing economic growth, attracting foreign investment, and strengthening diplomatic ties. The expected increase in both passenger traffic and cargo operations with the airport's international designation is seen as a pivotal driver for regional development. New terminal for domestic flight operations: Last December, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new terminal at Surat Airport constructed for ₹353 crore, specifically designed for domestic operations. Officials said that Surat Airport boasts a runway measuring 2906 X 45 meters, capable of accommodating Code 'C' type aircraft, along with a terminal building covering an area of 8474 square meters. The upgraded terminal's facade is crafted to enhance the passenger experience, featuring rich and traditional woodwork reminiscent of the old houses in the 'Rander' region of Surat City. The new airport terminal incorporates various sustainability features, including an insulated Roofing System, energy-saving Canopies, a heat Gain Double Glazing Unit, Rainwater Harvesting, a water treatment plant, a Sewage treatment plant, and the utilisation of recycled water for landscaping and a solar power plant, among other eco-friendly measures.
