Thailand–China QR Payment Partnership Boosts Tourism & Digital Integration
Thailand and China have introduced a groundbreaking cross-border QR payment system designed to transform the way travellers pay abroad. Launched on 30 October 2025, this initiative connects Thailand’s leading banks with China’s top digital payment platforms — Alipay, UnionPay, and WeChat Pay — enabling real-time, hassle-free transactions between the two countries.
The project marks a milestone in digital tourism innovation, allowing travellers to move seamlessly between both destinations without worrying about currency exchange or payment compatibility. This system is set to make travel more efficient, secure, and inclusive, while boosting tourism and trade between the two nations.
Making International Payments Seamless
Through the new payment linkage, Chinese visitors in Thailand can now make instant payments simply by scanning a Thai QR code with their preferred Chinese app. The network includes major financial institutions such as Bangkok Bank, Krungthai Bank, KasikornBank, and Siam Commercial Bank, among others, with more expected to join soon.
This initiative eliminates the inconvenience of handling cash or international cards, offering travellers a modern, cashless experience at every step of their journey — from street food stalls in Bangkok to luxury resorts in Phuket. Thai businesses also benefit, gaining faster payments and reduced transaction costs.
