Shimla Gets Season’s Second Snowfall, Turning the Hill Town Into a Winter Wonderland
Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, experienced its second light snowfall of the season on Monday, delighting tourists and locals alike. The local meteorological authority reported snowfall in higher-altitude regions like Kharapathar and Chanshal as well as nearby tourist attractions like Kufri and Narkanda. Because snowfall, sometimes known as "white manure," is predicted to increase apple yields—a major contributor to the state's INR 5,000 crore apple industry—farmers in the higher Shimla region are especially hopeful.
Snowfall ahead of Christmas has fueled a surge in tourist interest, with hotel occupancy rates projected to rise significantly. Local hoteliers, including Sushant Nag and Rahul Chawla, anticipate a 50% increase in arrivals. Heavy bookings for Christmas and substantial advance reservations for New Year celebrations further underline the tourism boom.
